In 2005 Alex Gordon was drafted by the Wichita Wranglers by the Kansas City Royals, picked second overall the Royals saw something great in Gordon. He stole 20 bases and hit 29 home runs during his first full season with Wichita. Gordon was purported to be one of the very best hitting prospects in 2006 in which he was selected to be part of the All Star Futures game. Gordon turned down the opportunity to play for Team USA in 2006, at the time he was leading the Wichita Wranglers to the Texas league play-offs.
