It was a long summer for Russell Wilson and his contract situation, but now it is over. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirms Wilson and the Seahawks agreed to a four-year extension worth $87.6 million. The news was first reported by Peter King of The Monday Morning Quarterback.
Wilson was set to make $1.5 million in base salary in the final year of his rookie contract and then become an unrestricted free agent; there’s been an awful lot of speculation back and forth between Seattle and Wilson’s camp about the amount of money he wants.
What was negotiated, or his agents was good: $21.9 million per year, with the guarantees still TBD and very much a big part of this. Wilson taking less than $100 million total would seem to be an indication there’s a large part of this guaranteed.
With a $60 million guarantee in Wilson’s contract and a $31 million signing bonus Wilson is pretty pumped about the deal.
