Shaquille O’Neal will miss the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ Friday game because of a serious thumb injury. On Thursday night, O’Neal suffered what was later described as a “significant right thumb sprain” when one of his shots was blocked. A timeout was called to take O’Neal out of the game, and shortly thereafter, an injury report described the injury as serious and said that that he would not return to the game. Teammate LeBron James said “We need him out there… You need to establish the half-court offense. That’s what he does for us.” O’Neal’s condition will be re-evaluated on Friday.

Last Saturday, Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Nationwide race in California by barely surpassing Greg Biffle in the final stretch. The Czech Republic lost Wednesday night’s Olympic hockey game against Finland, despite Jaromir Jagr’s return from injury. During Tuesday night’s overtime win by the Czechs over Latvia, Jagr left the game early in the second period with an upper-body injury. This was most likely a result of a hard hit that Jagr received from Russia’s Alex Ovechkin on Sunday.
Despite Jagr’s questionable status for Wednesday night’s quarterfinal game, he did play. However, this was not enough, as Jagr was held scoreless and the Czechs fell to Finland 2-0. Finland will now play the United States in the semifinals.
