Baseball legend Lou Piniella, better known by some fans as “Sweet Lou”, shocked Cubs fans and long-time Piniella fans on Sunday by officially retiring after 48 years in the MLB. Piniella had announced last month that he would be retiring at the end of this season, but he decided to call it quits sooner than expected because he wants to be with his sick mother. “My mom needs me home and that’s where I’m going,” said the 3-time World Series champion. “She hasn’t gotten any better… So the best thing is just to step down and go home and take care of my mother.” According to ESPN.com, the surprising announcement was made on Sunday morning in a team handout.
Born in 1943, Piniella made his MLB debut in 1964 playing for the Baltimore Orioles. He would also play for the Cleveland Indians, the Kansas City Royals, and the New York Yankees before retiring as a player in 1984. A noted hitter during his playing career, Piniella retired with a .291 batting average, 102 home runs, and 2 World Series titles to his name. As a manager for various MLB teams (including, most recently, the Chicago Cubs), Piniella won another World Series title and 3 Manager of the Year Awards. A true baseball great, Lou Piniella has enjoyed an illustrious MLB career that will not soon be forgotten.
Luckily for Lou Piniella fans, Hollywood Collectibles carries a great selection of Lou Piniella autographed memorabilia, including autographed baseballs, signed photos, autographed bats, signed magazines, and more. Each of these great sports memorabilia items comes with a certificate of authenticity and would make a great addition to just about any baseball memorabilia collection. Will thirty-eight year old former Miami Heat member Penny Hardaway be the next player to join Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh in Miami? The 4-time NBA All-Star, who turns 39 on Sunday, recently told “The Bottom Line Sports Show,” an online radio show, “I didn’t get a chance to finish my career the way I wanted. I can understand where Michael Jordan was coming from coming out of retirement a couple times… When you still have something in the tank it’s really hard to let it go.” Apparently in lament of the fact that he didn’t retire fully satisfied, Hardaway admits that his desire to re-join the Heat is directly related with the relatively recent announcements of Chris Bosh and LeBron James to join Dwyane Wade in Miami; “Mentally I was retired and physically I was retired. I was playing recreational ball,” said Hardaway. “But when the decision happened with Chris Bosh and LeBron [James], I felt like I could really be good in that system.” The question is, however, does Hardaway have enough gas left in his tank to be an attractive option for the Miami Heat? What unique potential does he bring to the table? What do YOU think?

In court, Barrett admitted to posting the videos online and trying to sell them. In September, Andrews appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and described the ordeal as a nightmare. In court, she said “I walk in crowds and I see him in my peripheral vision.
