About the Atlanta Braves

The longest continuously playing team in American professional sports, the Atlanta Braves were founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. Following a series of eight name changes and two franchise relocations, the team eventually became the Atlanta Braves in 1966. Since the founding of the original franchise (the Red Stockings), the Braves have won a myriad of titles, including 5 West Division titles, 11 East division titles, 4 National Association Pennants, 7 National League Pennants, and 3 World Series titles. Perhaps just as importantly, the franchise has been home to some of the greatest players in baseball history, including Babe Ruth, Warren Spahn, Cy Young, Eddie Mathews, Enos Slaughter, Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro, Tom Glavine, and many more.
