Cleveland Browns
About the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns began life in 1946 as a member of the All-America Football Conference before joining the NFL in 1950 after the AAFC folded. The Browns experienced incredible success in professional football prior to the AFL-NFL merger of 1970. They won the AAFC championship all four years that they were in the league as well as four NFL championships throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s. They even went 15-0 in 1948, having the first perfect season in professional football history, 24 years before the Miami Dolphins would accomplish the same feat in the NFL. Complete domination would accurately describe Cleveland’s run in the AAFC, as they only lost four games in four years. A new era began for the Browns in 1957 as it was the start of Hall of Famer Jim Brown’s nine-year career as Cleveland Browns running back. During this time, the Browns won their eighth and final NFL championship. When the Browns later became known as the “Kardiac Kids,” they nearly dealt the Dolphins a defeat during their perfect 1972 season. In the mid-80s, the Browns drafted quarterback Bernie Kosar, who would go on to become one of the most popular players in franchise history. The Browns have had rivalries with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Denver Broncos.
