Major League Baseball is North America’s only professional baseball League. Founded in 1876 with the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the current MLB is composed of a merger between the American League and National league that took place in 2000. As the League’s popularity grew, so did the league itself. By 1871 9 teams were formed. Currently there are 30 teams. These teams are divided into three divisions, east, central and west.
Before the start of the MLB’s regular season there is Spring training. Each team has a serious that lasts 3 to 5 games, playing both at home and on the road. During select weekends in May and June, interleague play is held allowing teams that normally wouldn’t be matched up. The MLB’s season consists of each team competing to reach the playoffs playing 162 games in total. The regular season ends either on the first Sunday in October or the last Sunday in September.
